My journey to art

Vera Schröder is a passionate international artist, from Leiden, the Netherlands. She is a contemporary abstract artist who is inspired by nature.

As a child she already was very creative and loved to draw. In high school she had art classes and also did her final exams in art. During these art classes she practiced a lot with portrait, still life and model drawing, also she learned to experiment with new art movements, techniques and unique materials. She spent every free hour painting in high school and in her last year of high school she did an one day internship at the Royal Academy of Art at The Hague.

When she finished high school she went to study applied psychology on the university of applied sciences in Leiden, but she missed being creative. So when she graduated from college she decided to do something creative, something she’ll really love for the rest of her life… creating art.

The art I love to make

At first she made a lot of realistic paintings, mostly animals, flowers and landscapes, but later on she decided to make abstract art. Abstract art is an expression of feelings, which gives her freedom. Nothing is right or wrong, she just follows her intuition. The art she makes is based on what inspires her, she uses the colors or textures and follows her feelings.

Vera works with lots of layers of paint and uses extensive color palettes. Her paintings are made with acrylics on large linen canvases. Vera Schröder creates mostly art series. All canvases in a series are based on a theme. They are all unique and different, but all connected with the theme through color, size and material. Her art is powerful, elegant, pure, energetic and dynamic.

She creates large works of art, but also takes care of the details, she is always looking for ways to make an artwork unique, exclusive and luxurious. She likes to add something special to her paintings such as shiny pearl paint, shiny bronze, silver, gold paint or composition gold leaf and also a few elements she finds in nature.

Where my inspiration comes from

Vera Schröder is inspired by nature. She loves to be outside, in the forest, on the beach or in the mountains. She is inspired by the little things in life, like flowers, stones, shells and sand, but also by bigger things like animals, sunlight, landscapes and the universe. All the different colors, shapes and structures, everything is inspiring in nature. She gets her inspiration for nature from everyday life and from her travels around the world.

To make an abstract art theme as realistic as possible, in addition to acrylic paint, she also uses elements from nature on the canvas. Elements she likes to add are sand, stones and shells from the beach, but also mussels and oysters. This way nature becomes really part of the artwork. You can see and feel where Vera gets her inspiration from.

This way through art, Vera wants to show the beauty of nature and the beauty of life.
